Respect or Hypocrisy

Whenever and wherever I see people work or serve I am often more interested in what motivates them. I was in a particular gathering recently when this taught kept craving for my attention and I had no choice but “give in” to the pressure. I think we often mistake hypocrisy for loyalty and respect. A lot of subordinates, who claim to respect and be loyal to their boss, are nothing but hypocrites.

A lot of attitudes and intensions need to be scanned before one concludes. I have seen a lot of people who proclaimed to be loyal to their boss and I am forced to go back to the dictionary, and consult the encyclopedia to check for the meaning of the word loyalty only to realize my guess wasn’t wrong after all.

What we do and refer to as loyalty is often nothing but hypocrisy. The way and manner a lot of people do things when their superiors are not around call for check and questioning. Our respect for authority tells a lot about our loyalty to the set authority. If indeed we respect the set authority as we claim to, then, there shouldn’t be any disparity between how we perform our duties whether our superiors are present or not.

Our beloved country has suffered as a result of lack of respect for constituted authority which suggests to me that we actually don’t have respect for our so called beloved country. The attitude of a lot of workers is nothing to write home about. Even the heads don’t have good examples within reach, leaders that can’t lead by examples- they make rules and break the rules themselves. Respect for the effort of our heroes past is far out of reach. What a pity!

No respect for human lives and the creations of the ALMIGHTY. Our cultures and tradition no longer make sense to us, “westernization indeed”. We have exchanged our treasure for pleasure, what a sad story.
Officers of the federal republic do not understand nor have any idea about the connotation of the uniform they wear.  A public office holder is demanding for a favor in return, for his primary responsibility and duty, hmm… A national team player needs to be begged and convinced before he honors a national invitation- I use to think wearing the national jersey “is” a thing of pride.

To be honest with ourselves, we have lost those traditional attributes that made us what we are. It is high-time we ask ourselves, who we really are. We have sold our birth-right just like Esau (in the bible), all in the name of westernization- our cultural and traditional values have taken the minority sit “in the house”. Do we really respect our country (Nigeria), do we really respect the constituted authority, what about our national symbols and the memory of our heroes past. God Bless Nigeria!
