Dear Coach,
I congratulate
you on your recent feat and above all for bagging the ticket to represent
Africa on the world stage-the FIFA confederations cup. And for the good job you
have been doing on the national team, well-done sir!
I want to
use this medium to pour out my heart on issues pertaining to the Super Eagles-
the Pride of Nigerians.
After the
AFCON, I was expecting some players to be excused from the team, while others are
given the opportunity to “fight” for jersey- not in all positions though! My
interest was more on the attack of the team, our strikers. Even if it means
considering some players based on their past records with the national team,
for the time they have stood up to make the difference.
One of the
players that come to mind is
Obafemi Martins, I can’t forget in a hurry, the
last minute goal he scored which made us qualify for the last world cup-against
Kenya? I may sound sentimental but, the fact is remains that, experience can
never be bought! He may not have made it to the Nations cup, but in my own
opinion, he would have done better than some guys who made the team.
Osaze, the
onetime favorite of Nigerians, no matter the misunderstanding sir as a manager
and the “father” of the national team, you should be able to manage every kind
of “character”. An African proverb says; when
you spank a child with the right hand,
draw him closer with the left. A coach is a good manger of human resources-regardless
of the personalities and characters.
Kalu Uche,
the man who made the difference for us at the last world cup. Injury denied him
from making it to AFCON in South Africa, what about the subsequent matches?
Emenike,
what would have been our story at AFCON with those blunt strikers- we sure
missed him at the Confederations Cup. Victor Moses, another player injury
denied a place in the Confederations Cup squad.
There is a
future for the Eagles, going by the promising display at the confederations
cup, but the absence of some players should not be an excuse when we have good
and reliable replacements.
Not taking
anything away from the team. The Eagles did well at the Confederations Cup but
would have done better with sharp strikers. Least I forget, what happened to
Obinna Nsofor, Anichebe, Chinedu Obasi, Ike Uche, Kalu Uche, Ekigo Ehiosun?
The earlier
we learn our lessons, the better for us and the brighter our chances in
subsequent competitions. And let’s remember that it is how well you are able to
convert your chances that makes a good
team. Missing begging chances will do us no good.
Continue the
good job, big boss!
