Essential Attributes For Success

The desire to succeed is an indication that you can succeed but, the desire to succeed is not enough just as the trafficator is not enough, until you turn the steering wheel, then your car turns. There are vital characteristics or attributes that are synonymous with successful people.  Regardless of the field you are, these factors are crucial.
  1. Passion: To succeed at something, you have to be passionate about it. Passion is the fuel of any vision. People who have excelled in various fields or endeavors have done so because they were or are passionate about what they do. So, add passion to that desire!
  2. Visionary: Successful people are visionary people, they are not just the “now” people, they are people driven by vision and purpose. They are not content with little success, they want more successes under their belt. They are not satisfied with breaking one record, they want to break more records.
  3. Be committed to personal Development: To get the best out of your life, the place of personal development should not be handled with levity or lackadaisical attitude. David Oyedepo says, “Leaders are readers”, read, attend seminars, get more qualifications, train more etc. What keeps a person relevant is his wealth of knowledge or expertise and how well he has been able to keep himself up to date with the happenings in his field.
  4. Circle of influence: The company you keep matters a lot.  A Nigerian proverb says, “a sheep that walks in the company of dogs will eat feces.”  And the bible puts it this way, “He who walks with the wise grows wise, but the companion of fools suffers harm.” The people you surround yourself with tells if you would to succeed or not.
  5. Humility: Having a big dream or vision is not an excuse to disrespect people or treat them disdainfully. Everyone is important because we’re all created and made in the image and likeness of God. Although, some might have missed it through their actions, decisions and choices. We are only made and wired differently. No one is superior to the other. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect. Be humble and be always willing to learn, no one is too old or too young to learn.

6. Endurance: one of the most powerful words I have gotten from my father and teacher is, “challenges are the breakfast of champions.” To be a successful person, you must be willing to endure. To become a more successful person, you must be an enduring person. Champions are made out of challenges. One of my favorite bible verses says, “blessed is the man that endures trials, at the end he will receive a crown which God has promised those who love him.” Don’t give up because you feel like, the race is not over until the tape is breasted. A true champion does not quit, champions are called so because they are winners and not quitters.

Lessons from Helen Paul’s visit part 4

I am an advocate of personal development, I jump at any opportunity to address any topic related to it. I was marveled when Helen Paul said she has bagged two masters degrees and pursuing a PhD. Are you surprised?

Knowledge has no end, the more you know the more you realize what you need to know. Albert Einstein puts it this way, “the mind that opens to a new idea is never comes back to its original size” that is, it expands and becomes more valuable. The truth is, knowledge adds value to whoever has it. The more you know, the more relevant you become.

I am so impressed and motivated by Helen’s quest for knowledge and this should be a challenge to us all. We should never stop increasing our knowledge base, not just in our field. We should also try to know about other fields or profession. This is one lesson I have learnt from footballers, they train regularly and apart from that, they take sometime out to play other sports e.g. table soccer, table tennis, swimming to mention a few.

Helen Paul, I salute your guts!

My dear reader, as I draw a close on this journey, I urge you to please take your personal development serious. Don’t think you know it all, no one knows it all and what lies ahead of you is greater than what you currently know except you are comfortable with being a mediocre. We can all know more than we presently do and this in turn increases our value and worth.

I hope you’ve gained a few things from this series? Thanks for reading. I deeply appreciate your time.

This is not all to the lessons to be learnt from Helen Paul’s life but I need to stop here (I am sorry I have to). I need to attend to other pressing issues. However, if you are interested in getting the DVD you can reach me via:

Lessons from Helen Paul’s visit part 3

Regardless of her social profile, Helen Paul still maintained a low profile and remained herself within the four walls of the class while in Unilag. She was never carried away by her “class”. A gift does not stand alone, it has to reside within a person and the carrier of such gift has to show that he has the capacity and maturity to make the best out of that gift.

“We might be classmates but we are not Grace-mate”.        Helen Paul

It is unbelievable how carelessness has cost a lot of people the opportunity to dine with kings. That someone is gifted should not be an excuse for him or her to misbehave, disregard or disrespect other people. J.C Maxwell says, “talent is not enough”. It is not all about the talent, your character as the carrier of the talent matters a lot.

Helen’s positive attitude worked for her greatly on her journey to stardom, her attitude towards lecturers, people around her, classmates and even those who hurt her. A healthy attitude is a basic requirement for anyone who intends to achieve something worthwhile with his or her gift. A good attitude is vital because it will help you pave through challenges and come out as a better person.

Challenges are part of life and are meant to make us better, not bitter. You have to keep moving on regardless of the rejection, negative experiences, financial challenges etc.

eni a ba f’eyin ti, egun loje (Yoruba proverb)

a person one is supposed to lean on or a helper has become a thorn.

I can’t imagine what it feels like when a supposed source of inspiration becomes a source of discouragement. At some point someone asked her questions like- who gave you the name, Helen Paul? Who did your naming ceremony? Na wa o!!

I am yet to see a person who became successful without having to face, fight and conquer their Goliaths. As I listened to Helen Paul’s story closely, I saw a lady who understands the role having a positive attitude and the role it plays on the journey to greatness.

Don’t quit because you have been rejected or victimized. Don’t stop because of little success, you’ve got a lot of grounds to cover.

Helen’s story is an inspiration, I hope you gain as much as possible and draw inspiration from her success nuggets.

Thanks for reading. Please share with others.

Watch out for more nuggets on Helen Paul’s story and journey to stardom…Catch ya!!
