Your gift/talent
should not be an excuse for your lackadaisical attitude towards your academics.
I’ve been privileged to meet talented/gifted in various fields. From my
observation, what makes the difference between those who make their gift count
and those who are eventually “forgotten” is their “knowledge base”. No matter
how promising the gift of a man is, there’s the need for him to have a good
academic background and get current information on how to deploy of his gift in
order to remain relevant in today’s world, especially in this part of the world.
The importance
of combining (formal) education with your area of gifting can never be over-stressed.
The likes of Bill Gates, Aliko Dangote, that we refer to as drop outs or
uneducated today are not where they use to be (knowledge). These people have
moved on and have gained more knowledge, don’t be deceived! The more you know,
the more relevant you’ll become Olumide Emmanuel an author and my teacher puts
it like this, if you are not updated,
you’ll be outdated… if you’re not in the
know, you can never be in the flow. What
keeps you relevant is the level of knowledge you’ve got and its capacity to
solve today’s problems.
Never leave it
too late before you realize that talent is not enough. You need something more
to qualify you. Like the popular saying goes, “heaven help those who help
themselves.” My question is, what are you doing to make yourself qualified for
heaven’s help? What you do to help yourself for heaven to help you is to “package”
yourself by “updating/boosting” your CV.
Knowledge is
light and the volume you have is what determines how much you’d shine. I
implore you to accept the challenge of increasing the brightness of your light
by ensuring that you constantly and regularly update your level of knowledge.
Things evolve every day, don’t be left behind, make your knowledge relevant in
today’s world.
