As we discussed about the issue
of relationship and my teacher began sharing some insightful truth about
marriage with me- from experience, pouring out into me from his life. He dropped
some nuggets that got me thinking about so many things at the same time, my background,
philosophy and projection (about marriage).
As I journeyed into the past, I realized
some of the effects of the older generation i.e. the negative consequences of
their relationship flaws. Some things
require our conscious EFFORT to be corrected. Our grandparents or great
grandparents might have made some costly mistakes especially in the aspect of
marriage but, it will be foolish of us to repeat the same mistakes, it will be unpardonable.
One of the areas of life one
should not joke with is the aspect of relationship especially for those who are
yet to marry, never allow your emotion dictate who to marry to you. Marriage does not depend on emotion to
succeed. What it takes to have a successful marriage is more than emotional
sentiments.
Build
your relationship on LOVE, not on emotion, not on sentiments…let Love be the foundation
of that relationship.
Read 1 Corinthians 13
I have seen the ripple effects of
some grandparents’ marital blunders span from generation to generation hence
having its toll on innocent grandchildren. The role a happy home plays on the
psychological well-being of a child can never be overemphasized.
In life, there is always
something to learn from every situation- be it good or bad. You either learn
how to do it or how not to do it. Our elders have played their part, it is left
to us the younger generation to correct their mistakes (if we have built our
capacity to do so) or build on their good legacies.
Let us ensure we make a positive
difference in every sphere of life. Let the generation coming behind have
something to point to as a source of inspiration, credited to us.
